If you’re wondering where to stay near San Gimignano to have everything within easy reach, our agriturismo is the perfect choice.
A visit to some of the world’s most beautiful art cities, such as Florence and Siena, just a 25 and 20 minute drive away, is a must. Wandering their streets means experiencing the high life among shops, museums, antiques, and traditional restaurants. In Siena, the city of horses, don’t miss the Palio horse race on July 2nd and August 16th, and a visit to the enchanting Piazza del Campo, the city center and a popular gathering place on warm summer evenings.
The best part, however, will be getting lost among the many villages rich in history and culture scattered throughout the area: small gems of Tuscan architecture and tradition, where you can buy cheese produced directly by local shepherds or fresh fruit at the weekly markets.
Chief among the surrounding towns is San Gimignano, a medieval metropolis, a city of towers, and a UNESCO World Heritage site. A vibrant town in the summer, it hosts events and performances in the Piazza della Cisterna and Piazza del Duomo. From here, Castelvecchio offers perfect itineraries for nature lovers. Continuing on, you reach Volterra, nestled among the Volterra salt flats, and a little further… the sea, reachable in an hour.
Pisa and Livorno are also an hour away, for authentic cacciucco (fish stew) or Livorno-style punch; Lucca, with its oval piazza, is about an hour and a half away.
And then Barberino Val d’Elsa, Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, Poggibonsi—with its fortress, summer events, and the Fountain of the Fairies—Monteriggioni, Colle Val d’Elsa, Certaldo, Vinci, Petrognano Semifonte and its dome. Beyond Siena, the Crete Senesi, Pienza, Montepulciano, and Montalcino, and the splendid vineyards of Brunello, Nobile di Montepulciano, and Rosso di Montalcino.
We’re in the Florentine Chianti Geografico region, just a few kilometers from Chianti Classico: castles, estates, wine and extra virgin olive oil tastings await you.
And if you don’t feel like going out… you can always stay home.
And what a home! Home sweet home.
